NFL Season Betting Strategies
2010-08-23

NFL season 2010 is here. For the bettors it is a very exciting time. It is a good time to make some money. But before you place the bets keep the following tips in your mind.

Sometimes an injury to an important player can have an abysmal effect on the team’s performance. This is the reason why the money line bet is so tempting. The following tips will help you win this season.

Bet on dark horse team if they are playing at their home because they are used to playing on that surface compared to the other surfaces they will have to play on during other games. So it increases their chances of winning and yours too. Primarily, the NFL betting is all about betting on the dark horse playing at their home against the other team who is not used to playing at the same kind of surface.

Bet on the teams who are most motivated. This tip works most of the time. You can create your own charts to compare which is the most motivated team and bet accordingly. It will help you win.

Set aside a particular amount of money before the season itself that you will bet during the season. Once you have exhausted the entire amount then leave the game. Do not bet more to cover up your losses. You will only end up losing more money. Don’t get too emotional and take decisions in a hurry. You should have a plan worked out before you start betting.

If you are lacing your bets online then do not believe any random sports book. Find out which one is the most reliable option and then only place your bets. One of the oldest and most reliable sportsbooks online today is www.sportsbook.com the home of football betting. Another important tip that you need to keep in your mind is do not lose your focus. Do not rely on your gut feelings. It will only lead to your heavy loss. You need to stick to your plan. Sometimes the bettors lose their focus and end up losing their money too. It is true that your system will not help you win every single day but you need to have some focus.

Sometimes betting on a dark horse but highly motivated team helps you win. Follow these tips and hopefully you will make some money during NFL 2010 season.

NFL: Late Afternoon Kickoffs (4:05 PM ET, FOX & CBS)
2009-10-16

There are only four NFL late afternoon kickoffs, so be sure to spend plenty of time reviewing the key game information for these contests available for you from Sportsbook.com on the LIVE ODDS, BETTING TRENDS, and TEAM STATISTICS pages. Here’s a quick look at the two divisional matchups, plus a Platinum Sheet BEST BET on one of the other contests.

(227) ARIZONA at (228) SEATTLE
Seattle hopes to head into its bye week at 3-3, but to do so, needs to come up with a second straight big effort at home. This week’s foe is rival Arizona, who snapped a 5-game losing streak at Seattle in its Super Bowl season of 2008. The Seahawks are off the 41-0 win over Jacksonville, and looking to extend a winning streak of eight straight games (6-2 ATS) in pre-bye week games. They are on a 4-1-1 ATS run at home overall. For Arizona, now 2-2 after turning back Houston, this is the first divisional road game of ‘09 and they were 3-0 SU & ATS in that spot in ‘08. Overall, the Cardinals have covered six of their L8 road games. Favorites are 6-2 SU & ATS in the L8 games of this NFC West rivalry, while eight of the L10 meetings have gone OVER the total.

(229) BUFFALO at (230) NY JETS
Buffalo begins a stretch of four road games in its next five contests when it heads to New York for a divisional contest with the Jets. With the 6-3 loss to vs. Cleveland, HC Dick Jauron’s club dropped to 1-4 heading into this do-or-die game. Amazingly, this affair will already wrap up Buffalo’s divisional road schedule for ‘09, and the Bills are looking to snap a 5-game losing streak (2-3 ATS) in such games. At New York however, Buffalo owns a 2-1 SU & 3-0 ATS record under Jauron. The Jets are back at home after a 2-game road swing, and looking to move to 3-0 SU & ATS at the Meadowlands. Their Week 2 win over New England snapped a 0-6-1 ATS skid hosting AFC East foes. Underdogs have dominated the series between these teams in New York, 11-2 ATS in the L13.
StatFox Platinum Sheet Best Bet: (231) TENNESSEE at (232) NEW ENGLAND
Tennessee is DOA, and if anyone is not familiar with that acronym, it is Dead On Arrival. The Titans effort on Sunday vs. Indy was sorry, and at 0-5, the ’09 season is virtually over for a team that won its first 10 games a year ago. The NFL is funny in that way, but can be profited from. Teams like Tennessee that are used to winning typically don’t exert the same effort when kicked and down as teams hungrier for a taste of victory. The Titans certainly won’t take satisfaction from anything but a win in this game, and simply put, they aren’t capable of winning at this point. New England meanwhile, is off a heartbreaking loss at Denver and in the midst of dogfight in the AFC East Division. HC Bill Belichick will have no qualms about putting the throttle down here. Play: New England -9.5

Yankees favored in wraparound game in Cleveland
2009-06-01

The New York Yankees go for the series win in game number four against Cleveland, trying to maintain lead over Boston for first place in the American League East. New York came back from a four run deficit Sunday, thanks to Mark Teixeira’s four runs batted in. Teixeira now has a 13-game hitting streak, off a bad start and is hitting .400 (22 for 55) with eight homers and 20 RBIs during his streak. Review the LIVE ODDS, BETTING TRENDS, and TEAM STATISTICS pages for baseball on Monday.

However, a lead off walk by reliever Phil Coke ended up setting the table for Cleveland’s Jhonny Peralta, who drove in the winning run with his third hit of the day giving the Indians a 5-4 walk-off win.

The Yankees (29-21, -0.5 units) will turn to Joba Chamberlain (2-1, 3.97 ERA) looking for the series win, after winning first two contests. The young right-hander had another shaky start in his last outing Tuesday at Texas, allowing three runs over four innings with four walks.

Chamberlain has ERA of 10.00 in the first inning this season in his nine starts. “Plain and simple, I was terrible,” he said. “I’ve got to do a better job of keeping the team in the game.”

New York has won the last six times they have played in Game 4 of a series and they have captured 14 of last 18 tilts during this run. With Chamberlain on the mound, the Yanks are 8-2 against teams with losing records and 13-4 when favored.

Cleveland (22-30, -8.8) will counter Jeremy Sowers (1-2, 7.71) who returns to the starting rotation. Sowers was dreadful with 0-2 record and 12.00 ERA, in two spot starts in May. He redeemed himself in part last Monday, tossing five scoreless innings in relief, in unfathomable 11-10 win against Tampa Bay. That was the left-hander’s first career stint out of the bullpen. Sowers and the Tribe are 1-6 when he starts the game versus a team with winning record.

The early line from Sportsbook.com has New York as -160 money line favorites with the total Un10. The Bronx Bombers are 7-1 against lefty starters, with matching record on the road if total is between 9 and 10.5 runs. Cleveland, despite their troubles this campaign, is 10-4 as home underdogs, though 6-15 in that role if Sowers is pitcher.

The Yankees are 7-3-1 OVER when Chamberlain toes the rubber and the Indians are 20-7 OVER as underdogs. It should be noted, nine of last dozen at Progressive Field between these teams have gone UNDER.
This is ESPN contest, which starts at 7:05 Eastern and if you follow baseball on the days of the week, New York is 5-13 in last 18 Monday affairs and the Tribe are 11-4 on the first day of the work week.

NFL: Sunday’s Early NFL Kickoffs (1:00 PM ET, CBS & FOX)
2008-11-21

If possible, plan your Sunday chores for either before 1:00 PM ET, or after 4:00 PM ET, since if you miss the hours in-between, you’ll miss the majority of the Week 12 NFL action. Ten games kickoff early on Sunday, with several of them boasting major playoff implications. Of course, the Lions are also in action, still hoping for that elusive first win. Take a look as we sneak peek the top games offering up some betting nuggets. Be sure to visit the Live Odds, Team Stats, and Betting Trends pages for the latest key game information.

(199) NY JETS at (200) TENNESSEE
It seems hard to believe, but Sunday’s showdown between the Jets & Titans could be a sneak preview of the AFC title game two months from now. Both New York and Tennessee lead their respective divisions and if the regular season ended after Week 11, would have been the hosts of the divisional playoff games in the conference. Still, there is plenty of football left to be played, and while this game figures to mean more to the Jets in the log-jammed East, it still important to Tennessee for obvious other reasons. The Titans are a perfect 5-0 SU & ATS at home in ’08, outscoring opponents by 10.4 PPG. New York is 3-2 SU & ATS on the road, yielding a hefty 25.2 PPG. However, the Jets are 9-1 ATS on the road in the second half of the season under Eric Mangini.

(201) NEW ENGLAND at (202) MIAMI 1:00 PM
The Patriots wrap up a crucial 3-game divisional stretch with a contest in Miami, seeking payback for the 38-13 hurting the Dolphins put on them back in Week 3. New England was a 12-point favorite in that game, the third straight time they were favored by double-digits in the series. Incidentally, the Pats are 25-10 ATS in their L35 games revenging a same season loss. HC Bill Belichick’s team is 18-7 ATS in divisional road games in his tenure. The Dolphins have been worse at home vs. division foes, going 3-13 ATS in their L16. However, they are 2-1 SU & ATS vs. AFC East rivals in ’08, and may have turned the corner in that regard after 4-19-1 ATS over the L4 seasons. Amazingly, Miami holds a 5-3 SU & ATS edge when hosting Belichick-led Patriots teams.

(207) PHILADELPHIA at (208) BALTIMORE 1:00 PM
The last two weeks have been damaging to the Eagles’ postseason hopes. Sunday’s tie at Cincinnati was the NFL’s first in six years, and considering the Bengals were 1-8 prior, about as close to a loss as you can get. At 5-4-1 and facing a difficult remaining schedule, this game at Baltimore has become a must-win. Of course, the Ravens are 6-4 and the contest is equally important to their postseason prospects. The teams are unfamiliar foes, at least in the regular season, having met just once in the L10 years. Philly hasn’t visited Baltimore since ’97, ironically a 10-10 tie. In terms of angles to consider for this matchup, Philly is 29-15 ATS vs. winning teams in the second half under Andy Reid, but just 6-17 ATS vs. teams who average 32 or more minutes TOP.

(213) CAROLINA at (214) ATLANTA 1:00 PM
Atlanta lost its first home game of the season this past Sunday, and a full game in the standings in the process. The Falcons can get that game back with a win this week versus division leading Carolina. Two games and two teams separate Atlanta from the NFC South lead. One of the HC Mike Smith’s biggest concerns has to be performance in divisional play, as the franchise is just 10-17 ATS in its L27 vs. division rivals, including 1-3 SU & 0-4 ATS hosting the Panthers. HC John Fox’s team is starting to roll, having won four straight games to move to 8-2. In Sunday’s win over Detroit, they rushed for 264 yards. Under Fox, the Panthers are 14-5 ATS on the road in division play. However, their point production offensively is down 13.6 PPG in road games in ‘08.

NFL: Super Bowl Champs Favored in Opener
2008-09-04

The New York Giants will start the 2008 campaign, essentially where they left the 2007 regular season. They are believed to be a pretty good football team, with enough weapons to be dangerous, however with shortcomings in enough areas. Along the way, in between the end of one season and before the next, they picked up a little hardware and some gaudy rings, having something to do with that Super Bowl thing. Giants’ fans and football bettors are still relishing the money they made on New York’s improbable run to NFL title, especially those on the money line against the then unbeaten New England Patriots.

Its opening night of a new season and Roger the Commish and his minions give us an old-fashioned NFC East rivalry to kick-off a new 17-week regular season. The Giants start under the leadership of Eli Manning, no longer challenged if he can be The Man in New York.

The Giants do have problems coming into the season with injuries, free agency and retirement taking away many of the aspects that contributed to spectacular late season run. This is not to say the cupboard is bare on defense for the G-Men, rather signals defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will have to meet the challenge with new personnel. Last year the Giants were 6-0 ATS when they held teams between 15 and 21 points.

Washington has given unproven Jim Zorn the keys to the Redskins present and future, with plenty of doubt surrounding the environment. While quarterback Jason Campbell strives to learn yet another offensive system, how the running game works will determine early season success or failure of Washington. The offensive line brought back a couple of old faces that were injured last season, but essentially the group is the same, meaning Clinton Portis will have to use his vision and shiftiness to find holes. The Giants will try to clog running lanes; to stifle Skins attack and make Campbell hit many of his new receivers. Washington arrives in New Jersey 13-5-1 ATS against NFC East opponents.

Sportsbook.com has New York as four-point favorite with total of 41. The Giants are 10-6 and 9-7 ATS hosting Washington since 1992, with the visitor having covered three in a row.

Serious football bettors will want to watch how Redskins T Stephen Heyer handles DE Justin Tuck. Heyer is descent player who gives good effort. Tuck has high motor and quickness off the ball. Whoever wins this battle will help team immeasurably.

Another battle is Plaxico Burress vs. Shawn Springs. When Plax plays like he did in the postseason, he is unstoppable in all the various pass routes. Springs is intelligent defender, and will try to jam Burress to throw off timing routes of which Manning is extremely comfortable throwing.

Lastly, will Manning be able to have TE Kevin Boss as reliable bailout? Boss looked uncertain in preseason. This could cause teams to double Burress if they don’t fear Boss or any other Giants tight ends.

Washington is 5-5 and 2-6-2 ATS in first game of the season and 6-10 ATS on the road the last two seasons. New York is also .500 in first tilt, with exact same spread record at 5-5.

NBC has the NFL season opener with Al and John and presumably a new artist singing the song to start the year. Keep in mind the Super Bowl champs are 6-0-1 ATS in first game the next season.

NFL - Pittsburgh @ New England
2007-12-07

When the Eagles laid the supposed blueprint for beating New England, it was speculated that the team with the best shot of knocking off the Patriots was Pittsburgh, due primarily to the Steelers ability to pressure the quarterback on defense and pop the big play on offense. Well, their shot comes Sunday in Foxboro. The hosts are still a double-digit favorite though.

This key game could serve as a barometer of whether or not anyone other than the Patriots has a shot at making it to Arizona for Super Bowl XLII. Pittsburgh is 9-3 overall, but hasn’t played as well on the road, going 2-3 SU & ATS. New England has been dominant at home, with a 5-0 SU & 4-1 ATS mark, beating teams by 24 PPG. In Pitt’s favor is a trend showing the underdog as 6-2 SU & 7-1 ATS in the L8 meetings between the teams.

Pittsburgh has some cleaning up to do in order to right the ship. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is near the pace to eclipse the record for most sacks by a Pittsburgh QB. The offensive line has not picked up various blitz packages well and Big Ben holds onto the ball too long trying to make plays. The Steelers DB’s have had hands of stone and are among the worst with fewest picks in the AFC. Third down conversion rates late in the game are downright sickening.

For all those who figured New England would stroll thru the season, destroy every team and cover the spreads like the stock market boomed during the dot-com era, well surprise, surprise. "I anticipate more games like this," linebacker Tedy Bruschi said about Eagles game. "You go down the stretch in December and teams start playing their best football and I anticipate all teams to play us hard.” The Patriots need to focus on getting running game in order for those cold weather contests ahead to close out teams like the Steelers late.

Keys to the Game
Pittsburgh has to surpass New England’s intensity and throw the proverbial kitchen sink at them. The Steelers are 27-8 ATS when playing against a top-level team (Win Pct. > 75%) for a reason. This would be a wise time for Bill Belichick to bring something creative to game plan. For example start the game with a two tight ends, running Laurence Maroney right down the throat in a test of manhood. The Patriots are 21-9 ATS in home games vs. good defensive teams who give up 17 or less points a game and could discourage Pitt, beating them at there own game.

Trends
~ Pittsburgh is 1-6 ATS in last seven meetings with the Patriots.
~ New England is 13-4 ATS in home games vs. good defensive teams who give up 17 or less points a game in the second half of the season.
